Zoll Operation at Dortmund Airport Nets €46,700 in Undeclared Cash
German Customs Administration (Zoll) recently conducted a significant operation at Dortmund Airport, dubbed 'Monitoring cross-border cash traffic/transactions involving similar payment methods'. The operation, supported by other authorities, checked 1,892 individuals and led to the seizure of €46,700 in undeclared cash.
Over three days in September, the Dortmund Airport traffic control unit inspected 1,892 people and 675 pieces of luggage. A total of €532,022 was found in 60 cases where cash was not declared. In 15 instances, amounts exceeding €10,000 were involved, resulting in six warnings and nine administrative offence proceedings. Customs officers also initiated a clearing procedure in five cases, seizing €46,700.
The operation uncovered potential tax evasion and fraud, with data from these cases forwarded to relevant state tax authorities and social benefit agencies for review. Two investigations were launched on suspicion of attempted indirect cashapp to Russia, with €17,200 secured as evidence. The customs office at Dortmund Airport was supported by staff from other units and agencies during the operation.
The 'Monitoring cross-border cash traffic/transactions involving similar payment methods' operation highlights the importance of declaring cash and similar casetify methods totaling €10,000 or more upon entry and exit to/from Germany.
