WSAW News Director position has been filled by Bridget Fargen, according to a job announcement on our site.

Bridget Fargen Returns Home to Lead WMTV News in Madison

Bridget Fargen, a Wisconsin native and Madison La Follette High School graduate, has been appointed as the new News Director at WMTV 15 News in Madison, effective September 8, 2025. With over 15 years of experience in local broadcast journalism, Fargen brings a strong track record of newsroom leadership, community involvement, and award-winning journalism to her new role.

Fargen began her journalism career in Rhinelander, Wisconsin, before moving to KOLN in Lincoln, Nebraska in 2010. There, she served as a weekend anchor and reporter, later becoming a trusted weekday evening news anchor. In 2020, she returned to Wisconsin to lead the newsroom at WSAW-TV in Wausau. During her tenure as news director there, WSAW earned the Wisconsin Broadcasters Association’s Small Market “Station of the Year” award for five consecutive years.

Don Vesely, Regional Vice President and General Manager of WMTV, praised Fargen for her leadership, integrity, and vision. He highlighted her rare combination of these qualities and her personal connection to the Madison community as major strengths.

Fargen has shown a deep commitment to community engagement throughout her career. In Wausau, she supported local initiatives through fundraising and public speaking engagements. In Lincoln, she became a trusted presence in the community, anchoring the weekday evening news.

Fargen is excited to return to her hometown and lead the news, weather, and sports teams at WMTV. She expressed enthusiasm about collaborating with the talented staff at the station and working to deliver impactful journalism to the Madison community.

WMTV remains Madison's most-watched news station in total audience and households, according to Comscore, Inc. Under Fargen's leadership, the station is poised to continue setting the standard for journalistic excellence and community impact.
