Wolfenbüttel's Major Bike Path Expansion Begins Next Week

Wolfenbüttel residents and users are asked to be patient as the city embarks on a significant bike path expansion project. The project, set to span approximately 800 meters, will be completed in two phases and is expected to improve safety and accessibility for cyclists.

The first phase, slated to finish by the end of 2025, will cover a 200-meter stretch from Schoppenstedter Stieg to Leipziger Straße (B79), widening the path from 2.50 meters to 3.50 meters. During this phase, the path will be fully closed for construction, but access will be maintained for allotment holders.

The second phase, scheduled for completion by the end of May 2026, will extend the path by another 600 meters. This phase will involve deep construction work, including the renewal of power and water lines, partial renewal of Telekom lines, and the renewal of the sidewalk in front of houses on Martin-Luther-Straße (numbers 85-95). The local parks, nature conservation, and cemetery authority will manage work on street facilities during this phase. Additionally, street lighting will be renewed or installed along the entire route to enhance safety and usability in the evenings. The federal government is funding 75% of the eligible costs through the 'City and Country' special program.

The bike path expansion east of Cranachstraße in Wolfenbüttel is set to begin next Monday, with the first phase expected to be completed by the end of 2025. The city asks for understanding and patience during the construction period, as the project aims to improve cycling infrastructure and safety in the area.
