Wind farm project in Romania, VIFOR, advances to its second phase, as Rezolv Energy signs collaborators.
In the heart of Romania, the VIFOR Wind Farm is set to undergo an expansion, marking a significant milestone in the country's renewable energy sector. This ambitious project, developed by Rezolv Energy through its project company First Look Solutions, is more than just a clean energy initiative; it's a commitment to responsible and inclusive development.
With a focus on local skills development, nature-positive solutions, and innovation, the VIFOR Wind Farm, once completed, will be one of the largest onshore wind farms in Europe. The expansion, scheduled to begin construction this autumn, will contribute significantly to the region's social, environmental, and economic resilience.
Key partners for Phase 2 of the Vifor Wind Farm include Rezolv Energy, Vestas, and PORR. Rezolv Energy, backed by Actis, is the project developer and coordinator. First Look Solutions has awarded the balance of plant contract, which includes civil works and high- and medium-voltage electrical systems, to the Austrian company PORR. Vestas, on the other hand, is supplying 42 EnVentus V162-6.4 MW turbines and will provide long-term service through a 15-year Active Output Management agreement.
Financing partners supporting the second phase include trusted lenders from Phase 1 such as Erste Group, UniCredit Group, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, the International Finance Corporation (IFC), Intesa Sanpaolo Group, OTP Bank, and Raiffeisenlandesbank Niederösterreich-Wien.
The partners will work closely with Rezolv to ensure the project adheres to international best practices and sustainability standards, including those of the International Finance Corporation (IFC), the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), and the Equator Principles.
Alastair Hammond, CEO of Rezolv Energy, expressed enthusiasm for the partnership, highlighting the project's importance to Romania's energy security and air quality, as well as its potential to set a standard for responsible development.
Rezolv Energy's portfolio includes several large-scale wind and solar projects in Southeastern Europe. Upon completion, Dama Solar, another one of their projects in western Romania, will be the largest solar plant anywhere in Europe. The company is also involved in the Dunarea East & West Wind Farms in Romania's Constanta County and the St. George, a 225MW solar project currently under construction in Northeastern Bulgaria.
With Phase 1 of the VIFOR Wind Farm currently under construction and expected to become operational by spring 2026, and Phase 2 scheduled to follow, the VIFOR Wind Farm is poised to make a lasting impact on Romania's renewable energy landscape. Upon completion, the VIFOR Wind Farm will have a total capacity of 461MW, capable of powering over 700,000 households. Commissioning for Phase 2 is expected in summer 2027.
Rezolv Energy was launched in 2022 by Actis, a leading growth market investor in sustainable infrastructure. The company's commitment to responsible development, coupled with their ambitious project portfolio, promises a bright future for renewable energy in Europe.
The expansion of the VIFOR Wind Farm, part of Rezolv Energy's portfolio, will be financed by trusted lenders such as Erste Group, UniCredit Group, and the International Finance Corporation (IFC), indicating the finance industry's support for the renewable energy sector. The project, upon completion, will have a total capacity of 461MW, supplying clean energy to over 700,000 households in Romania.
