Weekend closure for A7 road again; curious about the plans this time.

The A7 highway in Germany is currently experiencing a series of closures due to various reasons, causing significant disruptions to travelers, particularly during the summer holidays. Here's a rundown of the closures, their reasons, and the impact on travelers.

**Reasons for Closures**

The closures are primarily due to the need to replace or update the hardware and software of the tunnels after eight years of continuous operation, as well as the connection of all Hamburg A7 tunnels to the new Tunnel Control Center (TCC). A sudden closure was also implemented south of Hamburg, in the direction of Flensburg, due to severe structural damage found in a concrete bridge during renovation work near the Horster Dreieck, causing a complete suspension of traffic for safety reasons.

**Impact on Travelers**

For those heading towards Flensburg, a detour via the parallel A1 motorway is recommended. The diversion is expected to cause significant delays, especially during peak summer holiday traffic. The A7's closure as a key transport route connecting southern Germany with Denmark is also posing a significant challenge for transport companies, necessitating flexible route planning and adjustments to delivery schedules.

**Summer Holiday Effects**

The closures occur during the peak holiday season, when traffic volumes are higher. This exacerbates the congestion and delay issues along the detour routes. Industry associations are urging transport firms and drivers to closely monitor traffic updates and adjust schedules accordingly.

**Upcoming Closures**

The next A7 closure is scheduled for this coming weekend, specifically from Friday evening, July 18, 10 pm, to Monday morning, July 21, 5 am. This closure will affect the Schnelsen tunnel between the Schnelsen interchange and the Nordwest motorway junction. Three more closures are scheduled for August 9-10, September 26-29, October 17-20, November 7-10, November 14-17, and December 6-7, with varying durations.

For travelers, especially those relying on the A7 for northbound journeys, anticipating these disruptions and planning routes accordingly is crucial. The closure from July 18 to 21 is expected to be one of the worst this year, according to the ADAC.

Despite these short-term inconveniences, the long-term benefits include faster and safer journeys. Ongoing projects include the expansion of the A7 north of the Elbtunnel (Deckel Altona), the replacement construction of the K20 elevated road south of the Elbtunnel, and the construction of the A26 Wes with a connection to the A7 via the future Hamburg Hafen motorway junction.

Travelers are advised to stay updated on traffic updates and plan their routes accordingly to ensure a smoother journey during these challenging times.

A traveler might need to reconsider their financial plans due to the unexpected delays caused by the A7 highway closures, potentially leading to increased costs for fuel and accommodations.

The disruptions in the A7 route, a key transport link connecting southern Germany with Denmark, could also impact the schedule and performance of wealth-management firms with operations in this region.
