Volvo Cars, the renowned Swedish automaker, has revised its electrification ambitions, abandoning the goal to become a fully electric car company by 2030. Instead, the company aims for 90% to 100% of its sales to be electrified cars by 2030, consisting of battery electric vehicles (BEVs), plug-in hybrid vehicles, and a limited number of "mild hybrid" models.

Since the 2021 announcement of its fully electric goal, Volvo has launched five BEVs into the market: the EX40, the EC40, the EX30, the EM90, and the EX90. The transition to electrification for Volvo Cars is not linear, with customers and markets adopting at different speeds.

In a press release, Volvo's CEO, Jim Rowan, stated that the company is "pragmatic and flexible" while maintaining its electrification edge over its premium peers.
