Vintage railway journey - 95-year-old E-Lok train traversing Bavaria
This weekend, railway enthusiasts have the opportunity to embark on a historic train journey through Bavaria, organised by the BayernBahn GmbH. The special train, known as the Fugger Express, is operated by the Bavarian Local Railway Museum (BLV) in Bayerisch Eisenstein and is set to run from Munich to Augsburg, and further to the Werdenfelser Land.
The Fugger Express offers a scenic trip through the beautiful landscapes of Bavaria, making stops at Starnberg and Murnau along the way. For those who make it to the final destination, Garmisch-Partenkirchen, a ride on the Zugspitzbahn is possible.
The journey commences from Munich Central Station, and each evening, the special train is expected to return to its starting point. The E69 05 locomotive from 1930 will be operating this weekend, providing passengers with a chance to travel back in time in old, green platform cars dating back to the 1930s.
The BLV, celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, has made it their mission to operate historic trains and collect historically valuable railway material from Bavaria. In addition to the Fugger Express, the organisation also organises several special train journeys with steam locomotives.
On Sunday, special train passengers in Murnau can visit the historic E69 04 or the castle museum. Meanwhile, the E69 05 locomotive will travel to the Werdenfelser Land, making stops at Fürstenfeldbruck, Geltendorf, and the upper Paartal.
In Augsburg, there is an opportunity to visit the Bahnpark, an exhibition of many steam locomotives. The maintenance of the operational fleet is carried out by volunteer members in Landshut, ensuring that these historic trains continue to run smoothly.
So, if you're a railway enthusiast or simply looking for a unique and memorable experience, the Fugger Express journey is not to be missed. Hop aboard and travel back in time as you explore the beautiful landscapes of Bavaria.
