Upcoming Hyundai i20 Model Showcased: A Potential Upgrade for the Premium Hatchback with Expanded Crossover Characteristics?

In a significant development, Hyundai Motor Company has announced plans for a complete makeover of its popular i20 model, set to debut in 2026. The new i20 is expected to leave the hatchback segment behind and venture into the sub-compact crossover SUV market.

The front-end design of the next-generation i20 will feature lower-set LED headlights and a smaller grille, moving away from the current model's design language. The new i20 is also likely to sport a boxier stance, further emphasising its transition to a crossover SUV.

While the new i20 will receive a complete redesign, it will continue to be ICE-powered, as indicated by the exhaust pipes in the images. The new model is expected to offer the 1.2-litre 4-cylinder NA petrol and a 1.0-litre 3-cylinder turbo-petrol engine options in India.

The cabin of the 2027 i20 is expected to undergo major changes, with revamped interiors featuring a new layout and modern, digital cockpit. The new interiors will be upholstered in new materials, and the new i20 may feature powered and ventilated seats in the front row. However, it seems that the sunroof feature may not be included in the new model, as mentioned in earlier facts.

In terms of technology, the new i20 is expected to have a new display for the infotainment and cluster. At present, there is no confirmation about the inclusion of an ADAS Level-2 suite, as mentioned in earlier reports. It's also worth noting that the next-gen Hyundai i20 is not expected to have a mild-hybrid tech variant in India.

The new i20 is expected to rival the Kia Sonet and the Tata Nexon in the sub-compact crossover SUV market. A potential market launch for the new Hyundai i20 is slated for early 2027.

While there is no information available about a planned sales start for the revised Hyundai i20 in Germany, it's clear that the new model is set to make a significant impact in the global automotive market. Stay tuned for more updates on the upcoming Hyundai i20.
