United & Delta Boost In-Flight Entertainment: Free Wi-Fi, New Screens, and Premium Content

United Airlines and Delta Air Lines are enhancing their in-flight entertainment (IFE) and connectivity offerings. United is partnering with SpaceX for Wi-Fi and adding Panasonic Avionics seatback systems, while Delta is expanding its seatback IFE and content partnerships.

United Airlines is set to equip its entire fleet with SpaceX's Starlink service, providing free Wi-Fi for MileagePlus loyalty members. This move follows United's decision to add Panasonic Avionics seatback IFE systems to its narrowbodies and larger screens to its widebodies. By the end of 2026 or early 2027, around 1,000 United aircraft are expected to carry seatback screens.

Delta Air Lines, already offering seatback IFE on over 930 aircraft, has found that turning on entertainment at boarding reduces stress levels. Both airlines have bolstered their IFE content partnerships, with United adding Spotify audiobooks and Apple TV hits, and Delta providing ad-free access to YouTube videos and music playlists.

Panasonic Avionics, a key partner to both airlines, believes the embedded IFE business is growing despite predictions of its demise. The company is moving with the times, offering new software suites and supporting the transition to a 'connected seatback' with a focus on personalization and inflight wellness.

United's EVP and CFO Mike Leskinen believes that seatback IFE and high bandwidth Wi-Fi significantly improve the customer's journey, driving brand loyalty and revenue growth.

United Airlines and Delta Air Lines are investing in seatback IFE and high-speed connectivity to enhance the passenger experience. United's partnership with SpaceX for free Wi-Fi and Panasonic Avionics for seatback systems, along with Delta's expanded IFE offerings, show a commitment to keeping passengers engaged and comfortable throughout their journey.
