Two fresh appointments announced in Zurich by Cover-More

In a significant move signifying the recovery of the global travel industry, Zurich Insurance Group has announced a series of strategic partnerships and acquisitions. This includes the collaboration with Belgium-based Qover and the acquisition of AIG's global personal travel insurance and assistance business, including Travel Guard, for USD 600 million, plus a potential earn-out payment.

The acquisition makes Zurich one of the largest travel insurers globally, and the company is poised for further growth under the leadership of seasoned executive Jeff Rutledge. Rutledge, who previously served as President and CEO of AIG Travel for over 18 years, has been appointed as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Zurich Cover-More, effective July 1, 2025. He will take over from David Fike, who is retiring after a career of nearly 40 years, including more than a decade in senior roles at Zurich.

Cara Morton, CEO of Zurich Global Ventures, has expressed confidence that under Rutledge's leadership, Zurich Cover-More will continue to grow as a global leader in travel protection. Rutledge's extensive experience in the global travel insurance industry is expected to drive the integration of Travel Guard into Zurich and oversee operations, claims, and technology for Zurich Cover-More.

Emily Yoo, currently Transformation Director at Zurich Cover-More, has been appointed Head of Operations & Transformation. In her new role, Yoo will lead the integration of Travel Guard into Zurich and oversee operations, claims, and technology for Zurich Cover-More. Both Rutledge and Yoo will report to Cara Morton.

The partnership with Blink Parametric, CPP Group's parametric platform, is another strategic move by Zurich. The collaboration will result in the provision of flight disruption cover via Blink Parametric and Zurich Canada, offering protection for travelers during flight disruptions.

This deal marks another significant milestone for Blink as it tracks the ongoing recovery of the global travel industry. With the addition of Travel Guard and the strategic partnerships, Zurich Insurance Group is set to strengthen its position as a top-three provider of travel insurance in the world.
