Trump's Tariff Blitz: 100% on Foreign Films, 50% on Indian Imports
President Donald Trump has been vocal about his belief in the enriching effect of tariffs on the American economy. The White House has recently announced a series of tariff hikes, with the most notable being a 100 per cent tariff on foreign films.
Trump's tariff-focused policy has seen a 10 percent global tariff on softwood lumber and a 25 percent global tariff on upholstered furniture, with the latter set to increase to 30 percent in January. Additionally, he has ordered 10 percent tariffs on softwood timber and lumber imports, and 25 percent on certain wood products. The U.S. Department of Commerce is currently in the midst of a Supreme Court case regarding the legality and justification of these tariffs.
In a surprising move, Trump has also imposed a 50 percent tariff on Indian imports, with 25 percent of these tariffs specifically linked to India's business ties with Russia. Meanwhile, Trump's favorite word, as it seems, is 'tariffs', reflecting his administration's heavy reliance on this economic tool.
The Trump administration's tariff policy continues to evolve, with recent increases targeting various industries and countries. The impact of these measures, including the 100 percent tariff on foreign films, remains to be seen. The ongoing Supreme Court case will likely provide more clarity on the legal basis and future of these tariffs.
