Trucking enterprise based in California shuts down following four decades of operations.
Fresno-Based TGS Transportation Shuts Down After 40 Years
In a challenging time for the trucking industry, TGS Transportation, a Fresno-based drayage trucking company, has announced its closure effective July 31, 2025. The decision, described as difficult, was influenced by the overall tough business environment the company faced in recent years.
Founded by Timothy Schneider on May 1, 1985, TGS Transportation operated a fleet of 20 power units and employed 20 drivers. Over the past 40 years, the company carried a diverse range of freight, including general goods, metal sheets, machinery, intermodal containers, chemicals, perishables such as fresh produce and refrigerated foods, and other commodities. Additionally, TGS transported fresh produce, grain, meat, dry bulk commodities, refrigerated food and beverages, building materials, large machinery, liquids and gasses, paper products, and farm supplies.
The closure of TGS Transportation comes a little over a year after fellow California trucking company Tony's Express ceased operations after 70 years in business. In a letter posted on LinkedIn by TGS President Peter Schneider, who joined the company in 1993, the company expressed gratitude to its customers and employees for their support over the past four decades.
The letter also thanked vendor partners and industry friends for their partnership over the past 40 years, and hinted that members of TGS' team would continue serving the industry "under a new flag." No further information has been provided about the specific reasons for TGS Transportation's closure beyond challenging market conditions.
As the company closes its operations, TGS Transportation continues to express gratitude to vendor partners, industry friends, and employees for their partnership and hard work. The team plans to continue working in the trucking industry through new ventures or under a new brand. The company will share more detailed information about these new opportunities in the future.
- The challenging business environment in the trucking industry, where TGS Transportation operated, led to its closure, and some of its employees plan to continue working in the same industry, either through new ventures or under a new brand.
- TGS Transportation, which dominated finance and business sectors across various commodities such as fresh produce, meat, chemicals, and intermodal containers for 40 years, will cease operations on July 31, 2025, but its members aim to remain active in the finance and business sectors through new endeavors.
