Transport of goods on the Ohligs ring in Solingen will commence starting from Wednesday, receiving official authorization.

After months of renovation, the new-look Ohligser Square in Solingen is now open for residents and visitors to explore. The renovation, which was co-financed by the European Fund for Regional Development (EFRE) and the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, has resulted in a more inviting and eco-friendly space, especially ideal for use during the spring and summer months.

The redesigned area now boasts a single roundabout, with more green and open space. Access to the square via Lippestraße, Emscherstraße, Weststraße, and Lennestraße will be reopened from Wednesday. Cars, buses, and bicycles can now navigate the square after the access roads were closed during the renovation phase.

A generous space has been created, prioritising pedestrians and cyclists. The one-way rule for Lennestraße remains in place, directing traffic towards Düsseldorfer Straße and the market square. Lippestraße and the northern part of Weststraße have been connected as a one-way street, leading towards Bonner Straße. For the section of Emscherstraße between Bonner Straße and the roundabout, a one-way rule applies in the direction of the roundabout.

The renovation brings several advantages for the local climate. Surfaces have been sealed and greened to reduce heat islands, and rainwater retention will be improved. New plantings, seating areas, and outdoor dining options have been introduced to encourage people to stay and enjoy the space. Pedestrians can reach their destinations around the square via the usual paths.

Janina Steinkrüger, the alderwoman and department head for environment, greenery, energy, and traffic at the Solingen city administration, was involved in the construction of the new Ohligser Rondell. Andreas Budde, the responsible executive for planning, building, traffic, and the environment in the city administration of Solingen, is pleased with the result.

The renovation is part of the Integrated Urban Development Concept (ISEK) Ohligs. The square is now inviting residents to discover, use, and fill the new space with life, making Ohligser Square a greener and more pedestrian-friendly destination in Solingen.
