From July 24th to July 31st, 2025, there will be significant changes to the tram services in the city of Karlsruhe due to construction and maintenance work. Here's what passengers need to know about the alternative transportation options and service changes.

The cancellation of trams S31 and S32 will affect the entire week, and during this period, rail replacement bus services (SEV) will operate on sections of the affected lines, particularly around Bruchsal and Karlsruhe. The SEV buses will specifically serve areas between Ubstadt and Odenheim where rail service is temporarily suspended.

Commuters should be aware of nighttime partial cancellations and replacements, particularly for lines S31 and S32, due to ongoing track construction in the wider Karlsruhe region. While specific daytime schedules for replacements are not fully detailed, passengers are advised to use these SEV buses or other available transit lines during this period.

It is important for commuters to check current Karlsruher Verkehrsverbund (KVV) updates daily, as the situation may involve intermittent service changes primarily during nights and possibly extended to affected segments during the day due to construction.

In addition to the cancellations of lines S31 and S32, numerous connections between Bruchsal, Durlach, and the Karlsruhe main station will also be cancelled due to track closures and bridge work. Passengers can expect cancellations of these lines in the night from July 23rd to 24th, as well as trains between Bruchsal and the Karlsruhe main station being cancelled at night.

From July 28th, the route between Bruchsal and Durlach will be completely closed each evening from around 22:30. Train travel in the Karlsruhe region will have significant restrictions from July 24th.

Passengers can switch to regional trains by DB Regio and Arverio or use the trams and trams of AVG and VBK as alternative options. The S6 train's scheduled stops will remain in place, but there will be a delay of twelve minutes due to the track closures. The Regional Express RE 73 and the S-Bahn Rhein-Neckar will also be affected due to the route closure between Bruchsal and Durlach.

It's worth noting that during this period, a new mini-train has been introduced in Karlsruhe. Commuters are asked to pay attention to the displays at the affected stops for the most up-to-date information.

Passengers are advised to allow extra travel time and plan their trips accordingly due to the complexity of the construction-related changes. Further information about the changes can be found online.

Other transportation options, such as rail replacement bus services (SEV), regional trains by DB Regio and Arverio, trams of AVG and VBK, and the S6 train, will be available during the maintenance work on tram lines S31 and S32 in Karlsruhe from July 24th to July 31st, 2025. Commuters in the public-transit sector, particularly those relying on lines affected by the construction, should consider the finance implications of alternative travel methods in their plans.
