Urban Rail Woes: Munich's S-Bahn Shutdown this Weekend
Munich's primary S-Bahn line to temporarily shut down once more. - Train service on Munich's main S-Bahn line has been halted once more.
Plan ahead, folks! This upcoming weekend, the main line of Munich's S-Bahn will be undergoing another closure. Thanks to a myriad of construction projects on tracks, switches, and stations, the chaos will ensue from Friday to Monday, as announced by Deutsche Bahn. The construction works in Laim are barreling full steam ahead, too.
The section affected is between Pasing, Leuchtenbergring, and Giesing. From Friday evening until Monday morning, the S-Bahn tracks will be empty. Several lines will be rerouted or will end earlier. Some lines won't stop at the impacted section. Every ten minutes, replacement buses will serve the stations between Pasing and the main station on the main line.
Travelers can opt for alternatives such as the U-Bahn, bus, or regional trains. The S6 and regional trains can whisk you to and from the main station without stops in between. Additionally, bus 130 links Pasing with Westendstraße. The U4 will be extended from Theresienwiese to Westendstraße, offering additional travel options from Heimeranplatz. Eastern travelers between the main station and Ostbahnhof can use the largely parallel U5 as an alternative.
Information pillars will pop up at stations with replacement traffic, displaying changes to the network and information about replacement buses. Additional pillars will escort passengers from stations to corresponding bus stops. QR codes will be available to assist with tracking down the replacement buses.
The Lowdown:
- Affected Stretch: S-Bahn's main line between Pasing and Giesing/Leuchtenbergring.
- Impacted Lines: All S-Bahn lines except S7 will face disruptions.
- S1: Runs between Freising/Flughafen and the main station, with some trains terminating in Moosach.
- S2: In the east, it runs from Erding to Leuchtenbergring. In the west, it operates every 30 minutes between Petershausen and Heimeranplatz.
- S3: Operates between Mammendorf and Pasing, and between Giesing and Holzkirchen.
Making Your Way Around:
- U-Bahn and Tram: Use U-Bahn and tram lines for a smoother city commute. U3 can be a spot-on choice for travel between Moosach and the city center.
- Bus Services: Expect replacement bus services, but double-check the latest MVG schedules for accurate timings.
- Leg Power: For shorter stretches, consider walking or cycling.
