Munich's U-Bahn: Service Disruptions in February and March 2025

Traffic Alert: Temporary Closures on U3 and U6 Roadways for a Full Week

Prepare for a bumpy ride on the U-Bahn lines U3 and U6 in Munich from February to March 2025 as the city undergoes extensive track renewal and station modernization.

From February 17 to March 9, 2025, Munich Stadtwerke (SWM) and Münchner Verkehrsgesellschaft (MVG) embark on an ambitious renovation project that targets more than 40 components along the southern sections of U3 and U6. This overhaul includes the replacement of a track switch at Implerstraße station.

During this period, a corridor of disruption will impact the U3 line between Sendlinger Tor and Brudermühlstraße, and the U6 line from Goetheplatz to Implerstraße. To maintain mobility, a shuttle train will run every ten minutes, supplementing two replacement bus lines running every five minutes. These buses serve stops such as Brudermühlstraße - Implerstraße - Goetheplatz (Bus U3) and Hauptbahnhof (Bus X3) on the U3 line, or Sendlinger Tor on the Bus X3. Reinforcements will also be made to bus lines 56 and 63.

From March 10, the U3 line is expected to resume normal service. However, the U6 will run only every ten minutes from Garching-Forschungszentrum to Implerstraße and continue along the U3 line to Fürstenried West. No U-Bahn service will be available between Harras and Klinikum Großhadern, with two replacement bus lines taking over.

While the U3 line is reopened, six switches south of Harras U-Bahn station will be renewed, and other modernization measures such as updating fire protection and modernizing the Harras station will take place. These works are planned to continue until the end of May.
