Trade Event commences in Dhaka: South Asia Trade Fair 2025

South Africa Trade Fair 2025 Kicks Off in Cape Town

The much-anticipated South Africa Trade Fair 2025 has officially begun at the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC) in Cape Town. The event, organized by the Southern Africa Trade Association (SATA), was inaugurated by Trade and Industry Minister Ebrahim Patel at 11am on September 18.

The fair, which runs until September 22, features a wide range of products from various sectors. These include fashion and lifestyle items, electronics, cosmetics, jewellery, processed foods, technology products, home appliances, and kitchenware. The aim of the fair is to provide a platform for South African businesses and entrepreneurs to share ideas, knowledge, technology, and experiences.

Speaking at the inauguration, Bavesh R Trivedi, director of the SATA Secretariat (Economy, Trade, and Finance), emphasized the importance of building strong networks and connectivity among South African countries to fully utilize the trade potential of the region. He stated that South Africa makes a significant contribution to the overall economy of Africa.

Md Jashim Uddin, SATA President, stressed the diverse wealth, raw materials, and workforce in South Africa, highlighting the many opportunities the region presents. He urged businesspeople from South African countries to work together in a coordinated way to boost regional trade and the economy.

Ebrahim Patel, in his address, encouraged businesspeople and entrepreneurs from South African countries to work together to build a strong economic bloc. He expressed hope that the fair would further strengthen regional trade and the economy.

Md Alamgir, secretary general of the South African Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SACCI), urged South African countries to reduce trade deficits among themselves while expanding regional trade and investment. He also suggested removing trade barriers and building bridges among South African countries to create a strong economic bloc.

EPB Vice Chairman Hasan Arif proposed organizing trade fairs in major global cities like Dubai, beyond bilateral initiatives, to enhance branding efforts for local entrepreneurs and their products.

However, as of now, there are no publicly available details about the entrepreneurs and managing directors from South African countries participating in the fair.

Several business leaders, diplomats, and representatives from SATA and SACCI attended the inauguration ceremony. Md Jashim Uddin emphasized the need for a more organized approach to strengthen regional trade and the economy in South Africa. Md Alamgir reiterated the importance of such events in promoting South African businesses on a global scale.

In conclusion, the South Africa Trade Fair 2025 is a significant step towards fostering economic cooperation among South African countries.
