Tony Hawk's Memorabilia Auction Raises Record $1.2M for Skatepark Project

Tony Hawk, the legendary skateboarder, has auctioned off a significant portion of his memorabilia at Julien's Auctions. The sale, which included items from his illustrious career, raised substantial funds for The Skatepark Project.

The highlight of the auction was Hawk's 1999 X Games '900' Falcon 2 skateboard, which fetched a record-breaking USD$1,152,000. This board, ridden to victory in the 'Vert Best Trick' competition and 'Vert Doubles' event at the 1999 X Games, holds immense historical significance in skateboarding.

Other notable items included Hawk's 1982 Powell-Peralta Signature Pro Model Skateboard Deck, which sold for USD$57,600, and his 1999 X Games 'Vert Singles' Bronze Medal, which surpassed its pre-auction estimate, selling for USD$8,960. The auction also saw Hawk's '900' helmet sell for USD$115,200, making it the highest-selling item after the skateboard.

Martin Nolan, co-founder and executive director of Julien's Auctions, hailed the sale as a historic result for the culture of skateboarding and collecting. The auction included a variety of clothing and awards from Hawk's career, with most items exceeding pre-auction estimates.

Tony Hawk's decision to auction off his memorabilia not only marks a new chapter in his personal collection but also benefits The Skatepark Project, which supports over 700 global skate parks. The sale has set new records and paid tribute to Hawk's enduring impact on the sport of skateboarding.
