Thirteen days remaining: Kazakhstani tax authorities appeal to the public

Property owners in Kazakhstan are reminded that the 2024 property tax must be paid by October 1, 2025. Failure to do so may result in enforcement measures if the tax debt exceeds a threshold of 20 Monthly Calculation Indices (MCI).

The tax is calculated based on the cadastral value of the property and the actual period of ownership. If the tax is not paid within five working days after an enforcement order, the documents will be transferred to private bailiffs, who have the right to enforce payment within the framework of the "Law on Enforcement Proceedings and the Status of Bailiffs".

For debts exceeding 1 MCI (3,692 tenge), tax enforcement orders will be issued. In the simplified procedure (which has been in effect since August 2024 for debts less than 20 MCI), funds in bank accounts are automatically blocked and transactions with property are restricted. For debts exceeding 40 MCI (147,680 tenge), additional measures such as seizing bank accounts and cash, restricting operations with real estate and other property, and a ban on leaving Kazakhstan may be imposed.

Notifications about unpaid taxes have been sent out via paper notifications and mobile banking applications in July. Property owners can check for outstanding debts and pay the tax using the e-Salyq Azamat mobile application (section "Electronic Services → Service for Tax and Social Payments Debt") and second-tier bank applications.

It's important to note that no bailiff's fee is charged in the simplified procedure (which can be up to 25% of the debt amount in regular cases). Penalties will start to accrue from the day after October 1 for each day of delay.

The ban on leaving Kazakhstan can be checked on the portal of the Ministry of Justice. For those who frequently make mobile transfers, it's necessary to explain these transactions to the tax authorities in Kazakhstan. More information can be found in the linked article.

It's crucial for property owners to settle their tax debts promptly to avoid any potential enforcement measures. Paying the tax on time ensures a smooth and hassle-free experience.
