Thin to an Extreme Fiat Panda Construction Sparks Unease Yet Astonishment
In the small town of Bagnolo Cremasco, Italy, a unique custom vehicle has emerged, turning heads and challenging conventional car design. The world's narrowest fully functional Fiat Panda, a project that took Italian mechanic Andrea Marazzi a year to complete, is a testament to his skill and creativity.
Marazzi, who works at his family's scrapyard and mechanical workshop, hand-built this Panda as a tribute to the original car, reusing about 99% of the 1993 model's original parts, including the roof, doors, lights, and wheels. The result is an improbably slender car, only 19.6 inches (50 centimeters) wide, significantly narrower than the original model by about 38 inches.
The car retains all four small wheels of the original Panda, which is impressive considering the drastic reduction in size and width. Due to its extreme slimness, the Panda now accommodates only a single seat for the driver, with an added passenger seat behind the driver that is more of a tight perch on the wheel wells.
Powered by a 24-volt DC electric motor, the Panda is a fully electric vehicle. Its top speed is about 9 mph (15 km/h), slow but appropriate given the car’s narrow track and associated rollover risk.
Unique styling features include a single headlight upfront (instead of two), turn indicators on either side, a very narrow windshield, and a teardrop-shaped rear window resembling a ship’s or yacht’s bow. The steering wheel is notably small, almost toy-like, adding to the highly unusual appearance and driving experience.
Andrea Marazzi's creation is not just a technical achievement but also an artistic and engineering statement. This extremely slim Fiat Panda is both a tribute to the original and a remarkable feat of customization and creativity, showcasing Marazzi’s genius and mechanical skill.
Marazzi is releasing a build diary series on his Instagram page, Tutti Pazzi Per Marazzi, offering a glimpse into his process and the journey of creating this one-of-a-kind vehicle. Designboom brought Marazzi's work to public attention, highlighting the incredible craftsmanship and ingenuity that went into this project.
The custom-built Fiat Panda, a testament to Marazzi's mechanical workshop and creativity, has stirred conversations in the automotive industry, showcasing his ingenuity in finance, engineering, and lifestyle design. The unique vehicle, powered by a 24-volt DC electric motor, has also made significant strides in sustainable transportation. Being displayed on Marazzi's Instagram page, Tutti Pazzi Per Marazzi, offers a window into the finance and design aspects of this remarkable art piece.
