Tesla Model Y Performance undergoing performance tests at Nürburgring racetrack
Introducing the 2025/2026 Tesla Model Y Performance
The much-anticipated Performance variant of the Tesla Model Y is set to make its debut in the coming year, promising a thrilling driving experience with enhanced power, performance, and design updates.
The Performance model will be equipped with a dual-motor all-wheel-drive setup, featuring a front induction motor and a rear permanent magnet motor. This configuration is expected to deliver over 400 horsepower, offering 0–60 mph times in the low 3-second range, surpassing the 3.9 seconds achieved by the Long Range AWD model.
In terms of battery and range, the Performance model is expected to continue using Tesla's advanced lithium-ion battery packs, with a typical capacity of 78–80 kWh. Although the exact range details have not been confirmed, it is expected to be slightly less than the Long Range version due to the higher power output.
The 2025 Model Y refresh brings a sleeker front end, full-width LED light bars front and rear, rear passenger touchscreen, and improved suspension for comfort and handling. The Performance variant will share these updates along with performance-oriented wheels and tires, upgraded brakes, and possibly additional visual cues like a lowered suspension and a larger trunk lip spoiler.
Inside, the updated cabin features an improved light strip, rear passenger controls, and advanced tech features such as Full Self-Driving capability (optional), keyless entry, wireless charging pads, multiple USB-C ports, enhanced driver assist features, and customizable regen braking modes.
The refreshed 2025 Model Y began deliveries in early 2025 in China, with availability in North America and other markets starting March 2025. The Performance variant is expected to be available around mid-2025 or soon thereafter for the 2025 model year.
Additional aero modifications could still be introduced on the final production version of the Performance model. The Performance variant of the refreshed Model Y has been spotted undergoing testing at the Nürburgring racetrack in Germany.
The Performance model will be wrapped in Pirelli P Zero rubber, providing excellent grip and handling. It will also feature signature red brake calipers for a sporty touch.
In Canada, the new Model Y Performance is expected to be priced close to C$100,000. Pricing for the Performance variant in the US is anticipated to start around US$55,000.
In summary, the 2025/2026 Tesla Model Y Performance variant will offer a high-power dual-motor AWD system with approximately 400+ horsepower, rapid 0–60 mph times (~3 seconds), modern refreshed design with sleeker lighting and enhanced interiors, and advanced tech including optional Full Self-Driving. It will release in mid-2025 following the new Model Y redesign rollout. Precise detailed specs for the Performance trim remain limited but can be inferred from related Long Range info and past model progression.
