Grab Thailand Clarifies Airport Services Amid Taxi Controversy

In a recent statement, Grab Thailand, a significant player in Thailand's ride-hailing sector, has clarified its operations at major international airports, all managed by Airports of Thailand Plc. The statement aims to dispel misunderstandings and address concerns raised by public taxi drivers.

According to the company, Grab's designated passenger pick-up points at airports like Suvarnabhumi, Don Mueang, Chiang Mai, and Phuket are distinct from traditional public taxi stands, ensuring no direct competition for passengers and preventing any overlap in operational areas. Dedicated staff are present at these points to assist passengers.

Grab Thailand reaffirms that its operations are fully authorized, and it has never been in conflict with public taxi driver groups. The company underscores its commitment to offering additional income opportunities for public taxi drivers who use the Grab application, supplementing their traditional income streams.

The company's primary focus remains on maintaining service quality and safety standards, achieved through rigorous screening processes, criminal background checks, and a strict driver code of conduct. Furthermore, Grab supports public taxi drivers by providing training programs, enhancing digital literacy and financial planning skills, and offering essential aid during crises such as the Covid-19 pandemic.

The company encourages interested drivers to join its platform and emphasizes its efforts to promote safe, convenient, and transparently priced travel options for both Thai and international visitors. By doing so, Grab aims to support Thailand's vital tourism industry while fostering peaceful coexistence between traditional taxis and app-based ride-hailing services.

Recent protests by public taxi drivers, notably at the Ministry of Transport, have focused on ride-hailing app services. However, Grab stresses that its operations at airports are designed to coexist harmoniously with traditional public taxi services, addressing ongoing disputes and calls for the government to ban ride-hailing apps at airports.

Despite these tensions, Grab remains committed to collaborating with all stakeholders to identify solutions and improve public transport service standards across Thailand. The company reiterates its respect for passengers' right to choose services that best meet their individual needs.
