Surged Electronics Exports in India by 47% During Q1 FY26
In a recent statement, Pankaj Mohindroo, Chairman of the India Cellular and Electronics Association (ICEA), highlighted the significant growth of various product segments in the electronics industry. According to Mohindroo, apart from mobile phones, specific Indian electronics product segments showing growth and gaining traction in FY26 include solar modules, networking equipment (switching and routing apparatus), charger adapters and parts, and electronic components.
The growth in these non-mobile electronics exports rose by approximately 36-37% year-on-year in Q1 FY26, increasing from around USD 3.53 billion to USD 4.8 billion. This growth is a testament to the strong foundation India has built in the electronics manufacturing sector over the past decade. Total electronics production in India rose from USD 31 billion in FY15 to USD 133 billion in FY25, driven by targeted industrial strategy and policy interventions such as the Phased Manufacturing Programme (PMP), Production Linked Incentive (PLI) schemes, and strong state-industry collaboration.
Mohindroo urged caution and a sustained push to achieve long-term competitiveness. He emphasized the need to build resilience, deepen value addition, and strengthen the supply chain. He also called for a major thrust to scale up non-mobile categories to broaden India's electronics export base.
The mobile phone segment led the growth, increasing by 55% to an estimated USD 7.6 billion in Q1 FY26. However, Mohindroo emphasized the importance of diversifying India's electronics exports beyond the currently dominant mobile phone segment.
ICEA's goal is to create globally competitive Indian brands and champions across the entire value chain. To achieve this, the association aims to expand exports and scale value addition across all segments. ICEA reaffirmed its commitment to working with the government and industry to consolidate India's position in global electronics supply chains.
Additional segments that are identified as emerging growth areas and needing accelerated expansion include IT hardware, wearables and hearables, and consumer electronics. These categories are highlighted by industry leaders as important for broadening India's electronics export base.
The global opportunity in the electronics sector demands staying power, not just momentum, according to Mohindroo. He stated that the real climb towards global competitiveness, sustainability, and deeper value addition begins now. The growth in India's electronics manufacturing sector is considered a historic transformation over the past decade, and with a strategic approach, India can continue to make significant strides in the electronics industry.
