Surberg to Power Homes with 100% Hydroelectricity from 2026
Surberg municipality is set to power its homes with clean energy from Traunstein's municipal utilities in 2026 and 2027. The average cost for this electricity will be 9 cents per kilowatt hour in 2026, decreasing to 8.50 cents in 2027. Notably, the power is 100% hydroelectric, with an additional cost of 0.30 cents per kilowatt hour.
The switch to Traunstein's utilities is part of Surberg's commitment to sustainable energy. The electricity will be sourced from local hydroelectric plants, reducing Surberg's carbon footprint. The municipal council has awarded the contract for a new bridge over the Degenbach near Fuchsreut to Max-Aicher-Bau GmbH. This bridge, once completed, will facilitate the transportation of materials and personnel for the hydroelectric projects, streamlining the process.
Surberg's move to hydroelectric power is expected to lower energy costs and promote environmental sustainability. The new bridge will support the infrastructure needed for this transition, with construction underway by Max-Aicher-Bau GmbH.
