Nigerian Stock Market Closes in Positive Territory on August 7, 2025
The Nigerian stock market experienced a bullish run on August 7, 2025, as the All-Share Index (ASI) gained 756.85 points to settle at 146,570.7. This marks a notable increase of 0.52% from the previous close of 145,813.9.
The overall value of listed equities rose accordingly, with market capitalization edging up to N92.7 trillion from N92.3 trillion, across 35,291 deals executed during the session. Trading activity picked up, with daily volume surging to 1.98 billion shares, a significant rise from 1.7 billion units recorded the previous day.
The top 5 gainers of the day were AIICO, UPL, MANSARD, CORNERST, and GUINNESS, each recording gains of 10.00%, 10.00%, 10.00%, 10.00%, and 9.98% respectively. Notably, AIICO, UPL, MANSARD, and CORNEST each hit the 10% daily gain ceiling, leading the pack of top gainers. GUINNESS also jumped 9.98%.
GTCO led the value chart with transactions worth N2.9 billion. PRESTIGE followed closely with 249.3 million shares traded. In terms of volume, LINKASSURE and PRESTIGE saw the most activity, trading the highest number of shares for the day. STERLINGNG and LASACO rounded out the top five, trading 121 million and 58.7 million shares, respectively. ACCESSCORP completed the top five with N1.3 billion worth of trades.
On the flip side, the top 5 losers were CHAMS, AUSTINLAZ, CAVERTON, UACN, and JOHNHOLT, with respective losses of 9.94%, 9.83%, 9.65%, 9.44%, and 9.43%. CHAMS and AUSTINLAZ topped the losers' chart, shedding 9.94% and 9.83% respectively.
In the banking sector, ZENITHBANK rose 0.4%, while UBA added 0.73%. GTCO gained 0.55%. Among the FUGAZ banks, ZENITHBANK followed with N2.8 billion in value. DANGCEM recorded N2.7 billion in turnover.
BUA FOODS led the SWOOT gainers, rising 8.7%. OKOMUOIL posted N1.5 billion in turnover.
If positive sentiment persists, the index could be on course to test the 150,000 level soon. However, investors are advised to exercise caution and make informed decisions based on their individual investment objectives and risk tolerance.
