Status of Jilotepec residents-held Pemex reactors revealed

In Jilotepec, Mexico, a technical issue has arisen with one of Pemex's reactors at a facility, causing concerns about production capacity and operational stability. The reactor is currently undergoing repairs or maintenance to address the fault or damage.

Pemex is actively working with contractors and specialists to restore full functionality as soon as possible. This process may include temporary shutdowns or reduced output while repairs are conducted.

Contrary to common practice, where Pemex typically covers repair costs for its infrastructure, the payment debt in this case is not Pemex's but ICA's, related to the reactor transporter. Any related debt or financial obligations arising due to the reactor issue are generally managed by Pemex’s financial administration, with oversight from relevant Mexican government bodies, given that Pemex is a state-owned company.

President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo confirmed that the social issue regarding the passage of heavy equipment has been resolved. However, no new information about the damage caused to bridges, medians, and asphalt by the trucks carrying the reactors was provided.

The estimated cost for the repairs along the entire route through two populations is approximately 80 million pesos. President Sheinbaum pointed out that Pemex has contracted ICA for the coquizadoras of Tula and Salina Cruz.

Victor Rodriguez Padilla, the director of Pemex, addressed the issue of Pemex reactors held by residents in Jilotepec. He mentioned that they worked on the issue with Governor Delfina Gomez, municipal presidents, and the company ICA. Rodriguez Padilla stated that the resolution of the payment debt has already been achieved.

No new information about the status of the Tula refinery's project for utilizing Tula's residuals was provided in the latest updates. It is worth noting that the reactors are part of this project.

Official Pemex communications or Mexican energy authorities’ statements would be the authoritative sources for the most precise and updated details on this ongoing situation.

  1. The financial administration of Pemex, with oversight from relevant Mexican government bodies, is managing debt related to the transportation of reactors, a responsibility that usually falls on Pemex.
  2. Despite the reactor issue and the subsequent repairs, Pemex has still contracted ICA for the coquizadoras of Tula and Salina Cruz, indicating that the industry's operations in other areas continue to be a focus.
