Sports funding: LSB seeks 10% allocation for their initiatives
The German government, under Chancellor Friedrich Merz, has announced a significant initiative – a €500 billion fund aimed at infrastructure development and climate-related projects. This move is seen as a major attempt to revive investment in Germany’s economy.
The priorities of this program include climate-neutral energy, semiconductor production, AI, and digital transformation. However, as of the latest August 2025 search results, no sources indicate targeted funding for sports facilities in Berlin or any response to requests by the State Sports Association of Berlin.
The infrastructure and climate neutrality program's funding will be distributed over the course of the next twelve years, with approximately 100 billion euros allocated to the states. The "Infrastructure and Climate Neutrality" special fund, worth 500 billion euros, is being managed by the federal government.
Currently, there are no publicly available details or plans specifying allocation of funds from the German 'Infrastructure and Climate Neutrality' special fund directly to sports facilities in Berlin. Similarly, no information about the State Sports Association of Berlin’s request for 10% of the annual funds being addressed by the government has been reported.
The states will receive a portion of the funding for the infrastructure and climate neutrality program. A federal-state agreement is being developed to establish conditions for implementing the program. The details of this agreement, including the exact allocation of funds to the states, are yet to be disclosed.
