Spirit Airlines Confirms Furlough of 1,800 Flight Attendants
Spirit Airlines has confirmed the furlough of 1,800 flight attendants, effective December 1, 2025. This significant reduction comes amidst the airline's restructuring efforts and recent Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing.
The furloughs, announced by COO John Bendoraitis, will affect about a third of Spirit's cabin crew. This decision follows a 25% reduction in flight capacity and the discontinuation of service to 12 cities. Despite these challenges, Spirit Airlines ranked third overall for on-time performance among the 10 largest U.S. carriers during the summer of 2025, operating over 51,000 domestic flights during the period.
To support affected flight attendants, Spirit Airlines has implemented assistance programs and resources to help manage the impact of temporary layoffs.
Spirit Airlines' furloughs, impacting 1,800 flight attendants, are part of the airline's ongoing restructuring efforts. The company is committed to supporting its employees during this transition.
