Score Big with Optimal Payments' Game-Changing Moves

Optimal Payments Plc (OPAY), the powerhouse behind Neteller, is making waves in the online payment world with its strategic acquisition of the digital payment giant, Skrill. This $1.1 billion deal, announced on March 23, has everyone buzzing about what this means for the future of digital payments, particularly in the gambling sector.

Established way back in 2001, Skrill quickly became one of the leading operators in the electronic payments arena, boasting a whopping 36 million users across 30 countries. With over 100 payment methods supported through its international network, Skrill has been making electronic money transfers a breeze for years.

Neteller, another popular payment service owned by OPAY, is no stranger to the gambling scene. Its user-friendly deposit and withdrawal options have made it a go-to choice among poker players worldwide. By merging with Skrill, OPAY is strengthening its global presence and providing an expanded suite of payment solutions.

Under the terms of the purchase agreement, a significant portion, €451 million, will be paid directly from OPAY’s operating cash flow, with the rest funded through existing cash and equity for Skrill shareholders.

"We've just snatched a fantastic opportunity to bring Skrill, a business we're already familiar with, into our fold," said Dennis Jones, chairman of Optimal Payments. He further explained that this synergistic deal would make Optimal Payments the leading online payment operator in the UK. Following the announcement, Optimal Payments' shares surged by 32%.

According to Jones, the acquisition is expected to boost earnings for shareholders in the first full financial year of Skrill ownership. He added, "This transformative deal will widen our customer base and enable us to offer more extensive services to existing and potential merchants and consumers across all our global markets."

There's no telling yet whether Skrill will retain its identity or be fully assimilated into Neteller. What's certain is that the merger has the potential to redefine the digital payments industry, not only in the UK but across the globe.
