Sephora appoints Artemis Patrick as the upcoming CEO of its North American division
Going Steady with Sephora's New North American Leaders
Get ready to witness some exciting changes in Sephora's North American business as the beauty powerhouse has appointed Artemis Patrick as its new CEO, starting April 2023. Currently serving as global chief merchandising officer, Patrick will take up the top spot after the retirement of Jean-André Rougeot.
In the interim, Patrick will assume the role of President of Sephora North America starting October 2. During this transition period, she'll work closely with Rougeot and report to him, but once he retires, Patrick will report directly to Sephora CEO Guillaume Motte.
In a shake-up at the top, Sephora has also named Priya Venkatesh as the new global chief merchandising officer, both roles effective from October 2. Venkatesh, who joins the senior leadership team, will be reporting to Motte.
As Sephora gears up for this leadership shift, Motte, who oversees Sephora's entire business, has entered the fray just nine months ago, following the swift departure of former Starbucks exec Martin Brok.
With Patrick stepping into the CEO position for Sephora North America, the retailer is planning a highly interactive months-long transition. Starting October, Patrick will be shadowing Rougeot, gradually assuming more responsibilities, before taking the reins fully by January. By this time, she will be handling stores, e-commerce, marketing, tech, and supply chain, and leading the creation of Sephora's 2025 to 2027 strategy.
Motte attributes Patrick's success to launching the Sephora at Kohl's partnership, running the Sephora inside J.C. Penney business during its most profitable years, building out categories like inclusive foundation and clean beauty, and making Sephora the first retailer to sign the 15 Percent Pledge.
Patrick's extraordinary retail, brand, beauty, and consumer expertise, both in North America and globally, combined with her remarkable leadership skills and intimate knowledge of Sephora, will be invaluable in steering one of the company's most thriving businesses.
Rougeot, who has been with Sephora since 2019, has a lengthy history with parent company LVMH. Before taking the helm of Sephora North America, he served as CEO of Benefit Cosmetics for 12 years. Motte thanked Rougeot for his exceptional impact on Sephora's Americas business over the last five years, crediting him for transforming the region into a powerhouse that consistently delivers record-breaking sales and market shares.
Key for Sephora's continued success in the ever-evolving beauty retail landscape, particularly with the rise of Gen Alpha, will be Patrick's vision to balance engaging the younger demographic while maintaining a premium experience for existing customers.
