Sennheiser Faces a Huge Fine for Unlawful Price Collusion
Unlawful Partnership Penalties: Sennheiser Brands Facing Multimillion-Dollar Fines - Sennheiser faces a hefty million dollar penalty for undisclosed violations.
German headphone giant, Sennheiser, has been slapped with a staggering €6 million fine due to their illegal price-fixing practices. The high-end audio products manufacturer has been accused of sneakily inflating in-store prices by meddling with retailers, revealed the Federal Cartel Office.
This underhand manipulation has been going on since at least 2015, as Sennheiser frequently monitored selling prices of its goods. Any retailers found selling way below Sennheiser's recommended retail price (RRP) were urged to bump up their prices.
The Federal Cartel Office explains that this manipulative behavior was deliberate, with employees even receiving training in cartel law - but they misused this knowledge to mask their unethical activities.
The fine also targets three responsible employees and the German subsidiary of Swiss hearing aid manufacturer, Sonova. Interestingly, Sonova took over Sennheiser's consumer business in March 2022, but this unethical practice continued under the same brand until the Federal Cartel Office stepped in for an investigation in September 2022.
