New Brunswick's Ministry of Transportation has issued a recall notice for 22 electric school buses, following an incident involving one of Lion Electric's buses catching fire in Montreal. The recall affects a total of 23 Lion Electric buses in New Brunswick and Quebec.

The Anglophone East School District, Anglophone South School District, and Francophone South School District collectively have 22 Lion Electric buses. The Francophone South School District has one bus, while the Anglophone East School District has 11 and the Anglophone South School District has 10.

The recall was prompted by the incident in Montreal, which resulted in no injuries. Quebec has removed all 1,200 Lion Electric buses from circulation for inspection after the fire.

New Brunswick's Minister of Transportation, Chuck Chiasson, published the recall notice on Friday, in accordance with Lion Electric's guidelines. He is working with school districts to ensure student transportation during the inspection period.

The Quebec School Bus Association has stated that all buses should be back in service by Friday. However, no specific information about the exact models or the manufacturer of the 22 electric school buses recalled in New Brunswick is currently available.

It's important to note that this recall involves electric school buses manufactured by Lion Electric. This is not the first time such incidents have occurred, highlighting the need for continuous safety checks and improvements in the electric vehicle industry.

The recall follows a series of similar incidents involving electric vehicles, emphasising the need for vigilance and careful inspection in the electric vehicle sector. The Ministry of Transportation and the school districts are working diligently to address this issue and ensure the safety of students and drivers.
