Scant air conditioning facilities available for just a quarter of Krasnodar transportation routes.
Scorching Commuting Misery in Krasnodar: Public Transit Fans Blast Lack of AC
In the sweltering heatwave on June 11, Krasnodar residents took to social media to vent their frustration over the scant amount of air-conditioned public transit vehicles in the city. A recent report by "Kommersant Kuban-Chernomorie" exposed that only 25.5% of minibuses have AC installed, while a total of 40.5% of the public transportation fleet in Krasnodar boasts functioning air conditioning systems.
While MUP "KTTP" claims to have outfitted approximately 67.7% of its transport vehicles with AC units, including 57.6% of trams, 47.3% of trolleybuses, and 100% of electric buses and buses, the city administration's figures clash with those initially announced by KTTP, which stood at 54%.
Disgruntled residents of Krasnodar voice their grievances in various ways on social media platforms:
"Is the driver purposely waiting for passengers to collapse from heatstroke?""Apparently, it's just hot down south, and yet again, no one anticipated the transportation was unprepared.""Walking is better – it's not hot, and it's healthy.""Get a free sauna. Be grateful they're not charging extra.""Make the mayor take the public transportation until air conditioners are installed.""Wait for the next fare increase to hear the story of a comfortable future for city transportation.""I remedied the situation for myself. I don't board buses with open windows. Wait 5-10 minutes - an air-conditioned one will show up.""Someone's gotta kick the bucket, not just one, for them to get cracking."
The municipal center of Krasnodar informed Yuga.ru that passengers can call the hotline of MCKU "TsMDDT" at 7 (861) 218-99-18 or send a message to 7 (903) 412-01-01 if their minibus's AC is malfunctioning. Users are encouraged to specify the vehicle's registration number when reaching out.
As Yuga.ru reported, KTTP plans to allocate 9 million rubles towards the maintenance and repair of air conditioners in city buses and trolleybuses. In the Krasnodar region, temperatures soared to 36°C since June 9.
Residents' complaints could stem from various aspects, such as:
- Insufficient maintenance
- Flawed installation quality
- Economic constraints
- Inability to withstand extreme weather conditions
Due to the lack of specific reports or official statements from local transportation authorities in Krasnodar, it's unclear whether the city's air conditioning installation rate is accurate or if the complaints reflect systemic issues.
- The scorching weather in Krasnodar has raised concerns in the finance sector, as the city administration plans to allocate 9 million rubles for the maintenance and repair of air conditioners in public transportation, indicating a potential financial burden.
- The ongoing issues with public transportation's air conditioning systems in Krasnodar could have a significant impact on the transportation industry, as the lack of proper cooling systems may deter commuters and affect overall ridership.
