Saudi Water Partnership Awards Riyadh-Qassim Pipeline to Private Entities

Saudi Water Partnership Company (SWPC) has awarded the Riyadh-Qassim Independent Water Transmission Pipeline project to private entities. The project, with a 685,000 cubic meters per day capacity and spanning 859 kilometers, is set to begin commercial operation in 2025.

The project, tendered under a Build, Own, Operate, and Transfer (BOOT) model, attracted interest from 31 companies, including 19 local entities. Three bids were received, with bidders comprising two consortia and one individual company. The pipeline will feature bi-directional flow, aligning with the Ministry's strategy to interconnect regions and secure a reliable water supply.

The project involves the construction of six strategic storage tanks in Riyadh, with a total capacity of 1,020,000 cubic meters. Additionally, 32 operational tanks along the pipeline route will be constructed, adding another 571,000 cubic meters of capacity. To reduce carbon emissions, the project will integrate solar power solutions.

The Riyadh-Qassim IWTP Project is expected to commence commercial operation in the first quarter of 2030, with a concession period of 35 years. Upon completion, it will significantly enhance water transmission and storage capabilities in the region, ensuring a reliable water supply for years to come.
