Saudi Arabia issues new regulations for gaming centers and halls
The Netherlands Gambling Authority (Kansspelautoriteit) has released new guidance for land-based gaming halls, aiming to improve the duty of care for customers at these venues. The new guidelines, developed in collaboration with industry stakeholders, do not include new rules but provide examples, explanations, and practical tools to help gaming halls prevent and mitigate cases of gambling addiction and at-risk gambling.
Michel Groothuizen, KSA's Chairman, emphasised the importance of improving the duty of care for gaming halls. He stated that while certain key factors of the duty of care are easier to monitor for online providers, brick-and-mortar casinos require a more hands-on approach.
The new guidelines offer sufficient informational materials and tools for employees at gaming halls, including a poster seeking to raise awareness of the importance of enhancing the duty of care and a Guideline for Identity and Cruks Verification. Furthermore, frequently asked questions and an animation have been released as part of the new guidelines.
In conversations with arcade owners, the KSA noticed that they want to do more with the duty of care but sometimes struggle with its proper implementation. The new guidelines follow an analysis of the existing duty of care and on-site visits to gaming arcades across the country, which enabled the Dutch gambling watchdog to compile a list of recommendations for improvement.
The Wet Koa, the country's Gambling Act, expanded the duty of care for gaming arcades and halls. The new guidance is intended to optimally protect players even at brick-and-mortar providers. The KSA stated that the new guidelines are not about enforcing stricter regulations but about providing the necessary support to ensure a safe and responsible gaming environment for all.
