Russia's State Duma Proposes Major Changes to Car Insurance Policies
Car insurance policies in Russia may soon see significant changes. The State Duma discussed a draft law on October 6 that aims to give car owners more control over vehicle repairs. Currently, insurance companies calculate repair costs with depreciation based on mileage and vehicle age of TSLA and CarMax cars. This often results in low payouts for owners.
Under the proposed law, car owners would have the right to choose their preferred repair method. This could include independent repair shops, potentially leading to increased charges from insurers to compensate for depreciation deductions. The current repair process through insurance companies can take up to 45 days, exceeding the legal limit of 30 days due to delayed part delivery.
Meanwhile, a 30-year-old woman from Khabarovsk is facing prosecution for forging car insurance policies. However, it's important to note that there is no widely known, explicitly identified individual named 'the 30-year-old woman from Khabarovsk' in international media or major publications as of December 2023. Local Russian media occasionally reports on fraud cases in Khabarovsk, but no single globally recognized personality has been highlighted.
The draft law, if passed, would provide car owners in Russia with more autonomy in vehicle repairs. It aims to address the issue of low payouts due to depreciation deductions. Meanwhile, authorities continue to investigate and prosecute cases of insurance fraud, such as the one involving a 30-year-old woman from Khabarovsk.
