The L422 and L423 (Binger Straße) between Heidesheim and Budenheim, Germany, will undergo extensive renovation work from August 25th, 2023, until December 2025. Approximately 9,000 vehicles travel on these roads daily, and the work is necessary due to wide cracks, deformations, and subsidence.

The A60 interchange at Heidesheim to Budenheim will experience a full closure during this period. Traffic will be rerouted via the A60 and A643. The work will be carried out in four separate phases, with the first three phases allowing the connection from Budenheim via the L423 and L422 to Mainz-Gonsenheim to remain open in both directions.

The renovation work covers approximately 3.7 kilometers of the roads and includes extensive road surface renewal, replacement of underlying infrastructure, improvement of safety features, and possible expansion or adjustment of road lanes/ shoulders.

During the construction period, drivers will be diverted via alternative routes through nearby towns and major roads. They will follow signage directing them through the towns of Mainz-Kastel, Budenheim, and Heidesheim, utilizing the federal roads B9 and B41 as major detour arteries. Access for residents on Binger Straße will be maintained as far as safety allows, often with local one-way traffic or scheduled local access windows.

Some bus routes may be temporarily rerouted or adjusted; notifications will be issued by local transit authorities. Work will primarily be conducted during daylight hours, with occasional night work to accelerate completion or minimize daytime disruption. Weather conditions may affect the exact schedule.

Regular updates are typically provided by the local city or transportation authority, including expected road reopening phases. For the most up-to-date details, contacting the local municipality of Heidesheim or the Rheinland-Pfalz Road Authority is recommended, as schedules and specific rerouting details can be adjusted closer to or during the project.

The construction costs for the renovation work amount to 1.6 million euros. The project is expected to begin in mid-April 2025, with an estimated completion date of end of October 2025.

The extensive renovation work on the L422 and L423 is not only restricted to these roads but might also impact the finance industry due to increased construction costs, totaling 1.6 million euros. Additionally, the transportation sector will undergo changes as traffic will be diverted via the A60, A643, B9, and B41, affecting approximately 9,000 vehicles daily that travel on these roads.
