Prepare for a Gridlock Weekend on A81 near Sindelfingen!
A81 Highway in Sindelfingen Under Weekend Shutdown - Road Closure Weekend on A81 Close to Sindelfingen
Travelers beware! If you're headed towards Stuttgart this upcoming weekend, buckle up for some patience on the A81. Due to construction work, this crucial north-south connection will be fully shut down from Friday evening (9th May) to Monday morning (12th May), as revealed by project management company Deges.
Between the junctions Sindelfingen-East and Böblingen-East, drivers in both directions are expected to endure a detour via a congested diversion route that snakes through Sindelfingen city center. Previous closures of the A81 during the six-lane expansion saw diversion routes in Sindelfingen and Böblingen become clogged quickly.
From Friday at 10 PM, to Monday at 5 AM, according to Deges (German Unity Road Planning and Construction Company), traffic will be moved onto a new lane, and the Böblingen-East junction in the southbound direction will be opened. Moreover, a temporary bridge over the motorway will be placed, which buses will utilize in the future. An existing bridge in the area was demolished in November.
The A81 between Sindelfingen-East and Böblingen-East is currently expanding from two to three lanes per direction. Additionally, a noise barrier is being constructed over a length of approximately 850 meters to protect adjacent neighborhoods from road noise.
Since the start of construction in 2021, the A81 has been repeatedly closed due to the need to adapt numerous crossing bridges to the new width of the motorway during the expansion. The construction work is slated to be completed in 2027 and will cost around 490 million euros.
Avoid the jam and consider these alternative strategies:
- A8 and A81 Interchange: Using the A8 Autobahn towards Stuttgart or from Stuttgart towards the A81 can help you bypass the closed section by utilizing local roads or other highways like the A81 before the closure point.
- Local Roads: Taking local roads to circumnavigate the closed section could be viable. For instance, if traveling from Böblingen to Stuttgart, utilizing roads through Holzgerlingen or Leonberg might be an option.
- Regional Public Transport: Embrace public transportation to minimize the impact of road closures. Trains and buses efficiently connect Sindelfingen and Stuttgart.
- GPS Guidance: GPS navigation systems like Waze or Google Maps provide real-time traffic updates and recommend the most efficient detours during the closure.
- The community policy of Sindelfingen might need to address the increasing traffic congestion on local roads due to the A81 closure.
- The employment policy in the industry and finance sectors in Sindelfingen may face challenges due to the potential reduction in productivity caused by the A81 closure.
- The employment policy of bus companies in the transportation sector could benefit from the temporary bridge installation over the A81.
- To prevent the gridlock on A81 near Sindelfingen from impacting employment policy, alternatives like using the A8 and A81 interchange, local roads, regional public transport, or GPS guidance should be considered.
