Renovated Railway Platform 3 with Modern LED Lighting, Elevators, and Passenger Underpass Constructed
In an exciting development for the city of Güsten, Deutsche Bahn (DB) has announced a comprehensive modernization project management for the local train station. The project, set to begin on September 21st, 2025, aims to enhance the station's facilities and accessibility for all travellers.
The modernization will include the installation of modern LED lighting and an elevator on each of Platforms 1/2 and 3. These improvements will make boarding and alighting easier for passengers, as the platforms will be raised to match the height of the trains (55 cm).
Mayor Michael Kruse expressed his pleasure about the investment, stating that it is a significant step towards providing a more comfortable and accessible journey for the approximately 1,300 daily passengers. Dr. Lydia Huskens, Minister for Infrastructure and Digitalization, Saxony-Anhalt, echoed these sentiments, calling the investment at Güsten station a living example of their efforts to provide well-developed infrastructures for various forms of mobility.
DB InfraGO, the company overseeing the project management, has apologized for any inconvenience caused by the construction work. During the renovation period, the pedestrian underpass and some areas of the station will be closed to the public. Alternative access routes will be created and signposted to allow continued access to the platforms.
Improved waiting facilities, toilets, and a snack bar are also on the agenda, as desired by Mayor Kruse for the benefit of travellers. The existing wayfinding system will be supplemented with signage to the elevators.
The project is expected to cost around 11 million euros, with investments from the federal government, the state of Saxony-Anhalt, and DB InfraGO. However, the search results do not provide information about the architect responsible for the modernization of Güsten station.
Upon completion, Güsten station will be more attractive and offer improved conditions for mobility-impaired individuals, passengers with heavy luggage, cyclists, and parents with prams. Limited platform availability may cause disruptions to train services, so passengers are advised to check www.start-mitteldeutschland.de or www.bahn.de for updates.
It's worth noting that Platform 3 will be temporarily inaccessible for people with disabilities. A new platform surface will be installed, incorporating a tactile guidance system for visually impaired and blind passengers.
Güsten train station remains important for both regional and long-distance traffic. The mayor considers the current state of the station not a showcase for the railway or the city, and the modernization project management is expected to significantly improve its appearance and functionality.
DB InfraGO apologizes for any inconvenience caused during the construction period and assures passengers that the benefits of the modernization project will outweigh any short-term disruptions. The company is committed to making the journey more comfortable and accessible for all passengers.
