Renault-Alliance Group, comprising Renault, Nissan, and Mitsubishi, carries on with their collaborative endeavors at the Ampere manufacturing site in Douai.
Ampere Douai Plant Transforms for Electric Vehicle Production
The Ampere Douai Plant in France has undergone a significant transformation, investing €550 million to adapt to the growing demand for electric vehicles. The facility, a key player in the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi alliance, now boasts a flexible standard line equipped with two modular platforms: AmpR Small (for A/B segment vehicles) and AmpR Medium (for C segment vehicles).
This modern and modular production line in Douai now manufactures six electric models for four clients: Renault, Nissan, Mitsubishi Motors, and Alpine. Since May 2023, the production of the Ampere Douai Plant has been 100% electric.
The focus of the alliance's activities at Douai is on providing electric vehicles tailored to European customers. The Renault Megane E-Tech, Scenic E-Tech Electric, and R5 E-Tech Electric are already being produced at the plant, with the Alpine A290 set to join them in 2024. The Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross and its electric variant, the Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross BEV, will follow suit in 2025.
The Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross BEV will be unveiled on September 17, marking the first fully electric SUV of the brand for Europe. The all-new Nissan Micra was unveiled in May, and its electric version, the Nissan Micra EV, will also be produced at the Ampere Douai Plant in 2025.
The alliance's commitment to sustainable mobility is also driving common projects and regional opportunities. Ivan Espinosa, CEO of Nissan, and Takao Kato, CEO of Mitsubishi Motors, visited Douai, France on September 16, 2025, to witness the progress firsthand.
Douai's strategic position as a reference for industrial excellence in Europe is a testament to the success of the alliance's activities. With a production capacity of 50,729 units in 2023 and expected to increase to 89,527 units in 2024, the Ampere Douai Plant is a vital part of the alliance's mission to deliver electric vehicles to European customers.
Under the leadership of new General Director of Renault Group, François Provost, Ampere continues to be a trusted partner of Nissan and Mitsubishi Motors, producing electric models for the European market as part of the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi alliance.
