REI Closes Soho Flagship, Paramus & Boston Stores by 2027

REI has announced the closure of several stores, including its Soho location in New York City, which has been a landmark since 2011. The outdoor gear and clothing retailer will also shut down locations at Macy's and Target in Paramus and Boston in 2027.

The Soho store, REI's only location in the five boroughs, will close in late 2026. Known for its 35,000-square-foot flagship in the historic Puck Building, it was opened in 2011. Unlike other REI stores, it did not feature a climbing wall.

Earlier this year, REI announced plans to lay off more than 400 employees and shut down its Experiences business. The company has not specified the reasons behind the closures, but it is part of a larger restructuring effort.
