Markus Schwab, the current CEO of the Swiss financial app Yuh AG, will join Berner Kantonalbank AG (BEKB) by February 2026 at the latest. Schwab's extensive experience in developing innovative financial technologies and his visionary and implementation-focused leadership were cited as reasons for his appointment by BEKB's CEO, Armin Brun.

Schwab's responsibilities at BEKB will include overseeing IT strategy and its execution, innovation, data management, and the management of product and project portfolios. His department will define key applications and manage associated value streams.

BEKB had already revised its organizational structure in April 2025 to improve efficiency, innovation, and customer focus. The appointment of Markus Schwab follows a comprehensive search conducted by BEKB for a suitable candidate to head the new department.

Schwab's department will serve as the central point of contact for BEKB's IT subsidiary, aity AG. This move is seen as a step in line with BEKB's strategic direction and continued emphasis on enhancing its digital services.

Schwab's career in the financial sector spans nearly two decades. He spent most of this time at PostFinance, where he contributed significantly to core banking transformation and the implementation of digitalisation strategies. In May 2021, he took on the role of CEO at Yuh, a joint venture launched by PostFinance and Swissquote. Under his leadership, Yuh aims to make banking more accessible to users accustomed to mobile technology.

Markus Schwab was born and raised in Bern and currently resides in the Bern region with his partner and two children. He holds degrees in business and economics.

BEKB views the appointment of Markus Schwab as a strategic move, leveraging his combination of entrepreneurial thinking, digital expertise, financial market knowledge, and strong local ties to contribute to BEKB's digital development and strengthen its digital offerings.
