Let's Chat About Gaga's Singapore Show... and Scalping 🎐

Singapore, May 17 - The hype surrounding Lady Gaga’s Mayhem shows in Singapore seems to have deflated for scalpers, leaving them with a hefty dose of reality.

At first, it was a mad scramble - fans snagging tickets before they even dropped, and scalpers posting VIP resale listings that left many jaw-dropped, reaching a whopping S$30,000 (RM100,000). But the party's over, mate.

Only one of the four shows is sold out, and the once-coveted tickets are now being peddled for less than the original price. On popular platforms like Carousell and Viagogo, a S$328 ticket can be had for as little as S$280. And whoa, even those VIP packages, touted as premium experiences, are currently priced far from their initial gold-plated values.

Meanwhile, official platforms like Ticketmaster, Klook, and Krisflyer continue to offer standard tickets between S$148 and S$368, with VIP options available for S$648 to S$1,348.

The authorities have warned fans to stick to these authorized channels to avoid fakes and markups.

Contrast this with last year's Taylor Swift Eras Tour in Singapore, where all six shows sold out like hotcakes, resale prices soared, and hotel rates shot through the roof overnight. Compared to that, Gaga's Mayhem week is chillin‘.

Hotels near the National Stadium still have rooms available for around S$100-S$150 a night, while five-star stays have seen only modest increases of 10 to 20 percent.

Although Gaga's May 24 show is officially sold out, the other three dates — May 18, 19, and 21 — have tickets up for grabs, according to a report by 8days.

Originally billed as a one-off Asia-only performance, Gaga has hinted at additional global dates due to strong fan support. But for now, it's clear: what started as a high-stakes ticket rush has turned into a dream come true for bargain-hunters.

So, why the drop in resale prices? Well, it seems scalpers overpriced their tickets at the outset, deterring many potential buyers and creating a surplus. With the market becoming saturated, sellers had to compete for buyers, resulting in lowered prices. The initial excitement dying down also played a role in reducing demand and lowering prices. And let's not forget, fans might be snagging tickets from other sources, further decreasing demand on platforms like Carousell and Viagogo.

All in all, it's a win for the buyers, and it seems the gamble by scalpers hasn't quite paid off as they expected. Maybe next time, they'll think twice before trying to make a killing on tickets. 🚀

  1. In contrast to the Taylor Swift Eras Tour in Singapore last year, where all shows sold out and resale prices soared dramatically, the news indicates that Lady Gaga's Mayhem shows are currently selling at lower prices on resale platforms.
  2. The finance sector might not be as pleased with Lady Gaga's Mayhem shows, as the demand for tickets is not as high as initially anticipated, leading to a surplus of resale tickets and lower prices.
  3. While the entertainment industry is abuzz with Lady Gaga's Singapore shows, the finance industry, particularly scalpers, are facing a reality check as they struggle to sell tickets at their original high prices, with the lifestyle sector thriving as bargain-hunters find deals on tickets for Gaga's Mayhem shows.
