Reduced shopping activity prompts Recoleta Mall to reinvent: allocates $5.1 million for the addition of bowling and other entertainment options

The Recoleta Urban Mall, a popular shopping destination in Buenos Aires, is set for a significant makeover, with the new spaces expected to open by the first quarter of 2026.

The mall, which currently welcomes 400,000 visitors per month, was acquired by the investment group IRSA in 2014. Fast forward to the present, and Fortín Maure has taken over ownership, investing US$ 5.1 million in the conversion of the mall.

One of the most prominent projects of the relaunch process is the creation of a "Recreation Court", a thematic area of 1,350 square meters focused on leisure, sports, music, and gastronomy. This exciting new addition will feature a Sports Bar, a KFC franchise, a Cruza local, and an entertainment space with four bowling alleys operated by Paloko.

The reforms also include improvements to the cinema complex, new gastronomic options, and an innovative leisure area on the third floor. The cinema complex on the ground floor, a favourite among visitors, is visited by 56% of the mall's visitors.

The changes aim to attract more visitors, with estimates suggesting that the new offer will add an additional 150,000 people per month. Interestingly, 26% of the mall's visitors make purchases abroad, with 86% being university students.

Another central change is the appearance of the H subway line, which brings Recoleta closer to the public from Boedo, Almagro, and Parque Patricios. This convenient transportation option is expected to increase foot traffic to the mall significantly.

The Recoleta Urban Mall has been a staple in Buenos Aires' retail scene since its acquisition by IRSA in 2014. Under Fortín Maure's ownership, the mall currently houses 72 stores and 8 gondolas. The anticipated changes promise to elevate the mall's status as a must-visit destination in the city.
