Delhi is on the brink of a transportation revolution, with the official inauguration of two major expressways set to take place on August 17, 2025. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be in attendance for the ceremony, marking a significant milestone in the city's infrastructure development.

The Dwarka Expressway and Urban Extension Road-II (UER-II) are set to redefine travel and connectivity in the Delhi-National Capital Region (NCR) area.

The Dwarka Expressway, spanning 29 kilometres, connects Dwarka in Delhi to Gurgaon in Haryana. This access-controlled expressway includes an 8-lane elevated expressway, service roads, and a 5.1 km tunnel directly linking to Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI Airport). This tunnel will ease congestion on existing routes by providing a faster and more efficient airport access from Gurugram.

On the other hand, the UER-II, a 76-km corridor, is designed as Delhi’s third ring road. It links Alipur in North Delhi through Delhi and Haryana with major national highways (NH-44, NH-9, and NH-48). This corridor will facilitate uninterrupted travel from Chandigarh to IGI Airport, Gurugram, Jaipur, and other NCR destinations, reducing the burden on Delhi’s Ring Road and Dhaula Kuan congestion points.

The impact of these new expressways on travel times and connectivity is expected to be profound. For instance, the journey from Noida to IGI Airport is anticipated to drop from around 2 hours to approximately 20 minutes using these routes.

Moreover, the UER-II will connect western, southern, and northern NCR destinations like Sonipat, Panipat, Punjab, and Jammu & Kashmir efficiently, helping bypass congested parts of the city. These roads will reduce traffic on main thoroughfares, enabling smoother multi-city and multi-state connectivity, and providing direct, faster airport access, significantly improving overall transport infrastructure in the Delhi-NCR region.

In conclusion, the Dwarka Expressway and UER-II, inaugurated on August 17, 2025, will considerably reduce travel times and ease congestion, enhancing connectivity between Delhi, Gurugram, the IGI Airport, and NCR cities, thereby revolutionizing travel and connectivity in the region.
