Railway system LUCIE not intended as substitute for cycling in the city
In a series of informative texts, the Stadtbahn Association has been providing answers to various questions and concerns about the LUCIE tram system in Dresden.
The Managing Director of the Stadtbahn Association, Michael Ilk, emphasises the importance of the tram as a necessary means of transport for all people, regardless of age, health, or family status. LUCIE, designed to be barrier-free, accommodates individuals who rely on wheelchairs, making it an inclusive mode of transportation.
The expansion of bicycle lanes in cities like Frankfurt am Main, Leipzig, and Nuremberg does not render the tram unnecessary, according to Ilk. In fact, LUCIE and bicycle lanes complement each other, with the tram system providing a reliable option even in adverse weather conditions, while cyclists may not be as enthusiastic about pedaling in such conditions.
The LUCIE tram, a modern and very efficient means of transport, is not in competition with cycling but supplements it by accommodating various types of transportation, including bicycles, strollers, rollators, and e-scooters.
The Stadtbahn Association has conducted planning workshops to discuss the role of the tram and bicycle lanes in Dresden and other cities. These discussions have also addressed concerns about the environmental impact of the tram, as well as the impact on nature and species protection. The Association has provided clear answers about these issues, ensuring the public is well-informed.
Furthermore, the Stadtbahn Association has addressed important questions about funding for the tram-related projects. They have provided information about the funding rate and compensation measures for any potential environmental impact of the tram.
The Stadtbahn Association's commitment to transparency is evident in their comprehensive series of texts, which aim to address all questions and concerns about the LUCIE tram system. As the city of Dresden continues to grow, the need for efficient and sustainable transportation solutions becomes increasingly important. The LUCIE tram system, with its commitment to inclusivity and environmental consciousness, is a significant step towards a greener and more accessible future for the city.
