Puppy Smuggled on A8: Customs Seize Eight-Week-Old in Romania-to-France Journey
Customs officers in Augsburg made an unusual discovery on the A8 motorway at the Leipheim junction. They found an eight-week-old puppy in a small van with Romanian registration, traveling from Romania to France.
The puppy, estimated to be around eight weeks old by the attending vet, was sitting on a passenger's lap. However, the passenger could not provide a pet passport, and the puppy lacked a microchip and a rabies vaccination due to its young age. The vet ordered the puppy to be quarantined at an animal shelter.
The puppy had been separated from its mother too early, and the owner could not present any necessary customs or veterinary documents. An administrative offense procedure was initiated for violating the EU animal disease protection regulation.
The owner of the puppy has not been publicly disclosed. The puppy is now in quarantine, receiving necessary care and vaccinations. The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of proper documentation and care for pets when traveling within the EU.
