Phillies edge Braves 3-2 in extra innings, despite late comeback efforts

In a nail-biting four-game series, the Philadelphia Phillies emerged victorious against the Atlanta Braves, securing a sweep in the decisive fifth game.

Coming into the game, Cristóbal Sánchez of the Phillies was ranked fourth in the National League with an impressive ERA of 2.66. He lived up to the hype, pitching seven strong innings, giving up just one run on seven hits, and striking out eight batters.

On the other side, Chris Sale made his return to Atlanta's starting rotation after a layoff due to a fractured left rib on June 18. While he managed to strike out nine batters in six innings, he was unable to secure the win, giving up three hits.

The game remained tight until the 10th inning, when Trea Turner, who was on base along with Alec Bohm and Nick Castellanos, hit a clutch two-run single, lifting the Phillies to a 3-2 win.

Weston Wilson had earlier given the Phillies a lead in the 3rd inning with a solo home run off Sale. However, Atlanta fought back, with Nacho Alvarez Jr. putting them ahead 2-1 with an RBI single in the same inning.

The Braves had opportunities to extend their lead in the 10th, but Vidal Bruján and Jurickson Profar both hit flyouts, failing to capitalise. The Phillies, meanwhile, loaded the bases against Hunter Stratton in the same inning, setting the stage for Turner's game-winning hit.

Dylan Dodd, who struck out Brandon Marsh and had Turner in an 0-2 hole, was left rueing the missed opportunity. Matt Strahm, on the other hand, earned the win after giving up just Alvarez's hit in the 10th inning.

The Braves had started the series with a 4-0 victory but were unable to maintain their momentum, ending the series with a 4-3 record. They will face the same opponent again in the next game, hoping to bounce back from this setback.
