Peugeot's Electric Hot Hatch: E-208 GTi, the Revamped Icon, Coming Soon
Peugeot's electrified hot hatch, the E-208 GTi, makes an exciting return to the automotive scene.
The iconic Peugeot 205 GTi, a beloved hot hatch among enthusiasts, is making a comeback in an electrified form - the E-208 GTi. Before Peugeot unveils the 2027 model, they're giving the 208 a grand finale with this electric version of the GTi.
The 5-door E-208 GTi is more than just a nod to its historic counterpart. It features a wider track, a lower body, and eye-catching 18-inch alloy wheels. With larger front brake discs and LED rear fog lights, it screams sporty performance.
The E-208 GTi shares its technologies with the Abarth 600e Scorpionissima, another gem from the Stellantis group. The E-208 GTi delivers a punchy 207 kW (280 PS) and 345 Nm of torque, capable of sprinting from 0 to 100 km/h in a mere 5.7 seconds, albeit electronically capped at 180 km/h.
Step inside the E-208 GTi, and you're greeted by a cockpit filled with red accents, a flat-bottom steering wheel embossed with the GTi logo, and sports seats covered in a mix of perforated leather and Alcantara. With robust side bolsters, Peugeot promises a blend of everyday comfort and racing-inspired chic.
Battery-wise, the E-208 GTi sports a 54 kWh unit, similar to the standard model. However, the sporty emphasis means a slight drop in range to about 350 kilometers. The pricing details are yet to be revealed, but considering the Abarth's £37,000 starting point, the E-208 GTi should slot in slightly lower.
The E-208 GTi is expected to hit the markets by late 2025, with deliveries commencing early in 2026.
- Expected Price: Around £40,000/€45,000
- Release Date: Late 2025/Early 2026
The E-208 GTi boasts impressive performance figures, with a 0-100 km/h time of 5.7 seconds (pending homologation). It uses a 54kWh battery with an official WLTP range of up to 217 miles. With a limited-slip differential and optimized cooling systems, it promises a thrilling driving experience.
While the Abarth 600e Scorpionissima, priced around £37,000, shares similar tech with the E-208 GTi, it caters more to those seeking a balance between style and electric performance.
In essence, both the E-208 GTi and the Abarth 600e Scorpionissima target different aspects of the electric hot hatch market, with the E-208 GTi focusing on dynamic driving experiences and the Abarth 600e Scorpionissima offering a blend of style and overall driving experience.
