Partial Preservation of Prague's 'Knödelexpress'

Starting from July 26, Czech Railways (České dráhy) will be replacing the existing carriages on most trains on the Prague-Berlin route with modern Comfort-Jet trains, according to a press release by the company's CEO, Michal Krapinec.

The new Comfort-Jet trains can accommodate around 100 more passengers and are capable of reaching speeds of up to 230 km/h, faster than the old trains' maximum speed of 200 km/h. These improvements aim to enhance the travel experience for passengers on the popular route.

The departure times from Prague Main Station will remain the same: 10:28, 16:28, and 20:28, with arrival times in Berlin at 14:43, 20:43, and 00:57, respectively. The EuroCity connection EC 172/173 Hungaria, composed of Hungarian carriages, will continue to operate on the Prague-Berlin route.

However, the popular traditional dining cars of the Knödel Express train service between Prague and Berlin will be ending as part of the modernization process. The original dining cars will continue to operate on three train pairs: EC 378, EC 170, and EC 258 from Prague Main Station, and EC 171, EC 379, and EC 259 in the reverse direction.

While the Knödel Express dining cars will no longer be a part of the modern Nightjets, a part of the familiar service will continue. Czech railway operators hinted that the original dining cars of the Knödel Express will continue to operate on the Prague–Leipzig route.

It is worth noting that the EuroCity trains EC 178, EC 170, and EC 258 will continue to operate on the Prague-Berlin route, and the corresponding trains in the reverse direction are EC 171, EC 379, and EC 259. The EuroCity connection EC 172/173 Hungaria also continues to operate on the Prague-Berlin route.

Additionally, the new Comfort-Jet trains can accommodate more bicycles, making it easier for cyclists to travel between the two cities. The rail connection between Berlin and Prague remains partially intact, with the dining cars now serving the Prague-Leipzig segment.

The new Comfort-Jet trains are already being served on the Prague-Berlin route, with the exception of the EuroCity trains mentioned above and the EuroCity connection EC 172/173 Hungaria. Passengers can look forward to a more comfortable and efficient journey with the introduction of these new trains.

The new service of Comfort-Jet trains in the transportation industry is set to offer a more efficient financial solution for passengers traveling on the Prague-Berlin route, enabling them to reach speeds of up to 230 km/h. Furthermore, the upgraded service extends to accommodating more bicycles, appealing to cyclists in the finance sector.
